Global day of parents 2022: “Family awareness.”

A few weeks ago, the world came together to celebrate motherhood. In a few weeks, we will be celebrating fatherhood. A parent is not necessarily a mother or a father, But also a step mother, a step father, an uncle, aunt, a grandmother or a grandfather. As we celebrate global day of parents, we acknowledge this parents, for they make our world go round. The love and wisdom they instill in us cannot be described through words. A parent does not necessarily have to be a biological father or mother. It could be someone who looks after a child the same way as the biological parents would. Nevertheless, one thing we can all agree on is that parents play a big role in the development of their children and the society. Their contribution affect every area of a child, be it physical, Mental, social or even emotional. Parents are without a doubt, one of the most if not the most influential role models children will have under normal circumstances. Yet, parenting is the most demanding, consuming but fulfilling job ever existed. It comes with sacrifices and consistent role modelling, to nurture and model children into Better human beings. It is an unending responsibility. As the old adage goes, once a parent always a parent. Parenting does not come with a manual. Often, parents replicate the parenting styles of their own parents or try to inculcate a different education from the one they received. Parenting is not a one size fit all approach. It is a combination of sacrifices, love, conflicts, chaos, confusion, doubt, despair, prayers, and that is what makes the parenting journey comparable to none. This year’s theme for global day of parents is “family awareness.” The theme urges us to be aware of not only our own but also our family’s mental and physical well being. Parents are always concerned about how fit their children are both physically and mentally, that they often undermine their own. While this is without a doubt a sign of love, parents ought to understand that creating and prioritizing their physical and mental health is equally important. We cannot give what we do not have. May we live each day remembing that the most important people in our life are our parents. May we not be too busy growing up and forget that they are growing old too. Let us recognize their sacrifices and struggles and the work they continue to do to make us who we are today. “We never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves.”
