August 12th marks International youth day- a day to recognize the unique challenges and opportunities facing young people today. Young people present the largest generation in history and their voices, ideas and actions are shaping the world.
The theme of the 2023 International Youth Day is “Green skills for youth: Towards a sustainable world.” It emphasizes the need to move toward a more environmentally sound and climate-friendly society, which is essential for addressing global climate catastrophe and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Acquiring green skills will play a crucial role in facilitating a seamless transition within a greener future. The knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop, and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society are known as “green skills.”
Due to their interdisciplinary character, green skills are sometimes articulated, in part if not entirely, through other related words like “skills for the future” and “skills for green jobs.” Green skills are essential for people of all ages, but they are especially important for younger people since they can make a longer-term contribution to the green transition.
