World blood donor day 2022: donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.

“Never refuse to donate blood if you can, as you may be the next needy.” There is always someone in need of blood. Every single day, they are people looking for blood to survive, to heal, to be whole again. From accident victims to transplants, blood donation is an important part of healthcare. It is said that one donation can save up to three lives.

Every 14th of June , countries and individuals all over the world come together to mark World Blood Donor Day. This day calls upon government and health officials to provide the opportunity and required resources to voluntary donors so as to increase blood collection and availability to those in need of it.

Health officials use donated blood to help patients who have serious injuries, blood disorders, and cancer patients, among many more. Donating blood does not make you weak. It does not also interfere with the normal functioning of the body. However, should you be interested in donating blood, doctors and health officials will have to examine your health status to ensure that you are a good fit for blood donation. There are cases where voluntary donors are prevented from donating blood due to overlying illnesses. Similarly, before a person receives donated blood, doctors will first check to ensure  compatibility. Wrong blood transfusion can be life threatening.

This year, the theme for World Bood Donor Day is “donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.” It urges individuals  to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

To mark this day, , the World Health Organization creates awareness on the need for regular blood donations and appreciate donors for their service and acts of kindness.  Beside the formalization of this day, blood donation gives hope to the patients in dire need of blood and tell them somehow that help is on its way.

Sometimes, that blood can do what money cannot.
