WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY 2022: “LEARNING AND SKILLS FOR LIFE, WORK, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”.

“There is a fountain for youth; it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love.  When you learn to tap these sources, you will truly have defeated age.”  Sophia Loren.

Being a youth is a wonderful yet challenging stage of life. Wonderful because you have all the time in the world to do whatever you wish to do. You are strong and can climb mountains. You are being taken care of, you have no responsibility. You get to experience the beauty of life at its peak. Challenging because you get to make decisions that will affect your future life, while preparing you for the journey ahead.

Most youths are torn between enjoying the present life and investing their resources and energy for the sake of the future, a situation they cannot navigate without the right compass. They need people to guide them through the turmoil and lonely path they find themselves on in this technological world.

The youth of today have a lot of pressure. While years ago, young people could be young, today’s youth are looked up to by the society to end corruption, be environmental activists, raise a godly generation and uphold integrity. Being a youth is not just about age, but also the state of one’s mind, being open minded, taking up opportunities with boldness and facing challenges with strength.

The 15th July of every year symbolizes International Youth Skills Day. The main purpose of this day is to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. The youth needs to have the right skills to enable them achieve their goals and be successful. The recognition of this day has been of great impact because it has led to the reduction of unemployment, established technical training institutes for the youth, and rescued youths from criminal activities by providing them with better employment and incomes.

To better serve this generation, Governments need to listen to the youth, and offer solutions to their problems, while supporting their ideas. The youth should also be allowed to have a voice and take up big roles in organizations. Intergenerational conversations is needed today more than ever.

This year, the celebration will highlight the ongoing focus on the Transforming Education Summit and contribute to the work being done under its Theme, “Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development”. At Transolution Services, we support the United Nations initiative of celebrating this day, and highly acknowledge its’ support towards equipping the youths with knowledge and skills to help them survive and thrive in a fast changing world.
